What is occupational therapy for kids for?

At Kids Club Paediatric Therapy, occupational therapy helps children build the everyday skills they need to thrive at home, school, and in the community. This includes things like getting dressed, using cutlery, writing, regulating emotions, concentrating in class, and interacting with others. Our Occupational Therapists support children in becoming more independent, confident, and capable in their daily lives—always in a way that’s fun, neuroaffirming, and tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Why would a kid see an occupational therapist?

A child may benefit from seeing an Occupational Therapist if they:

  • Struggle with fine motor skills (e.g. using scissors, writing, buttoning clothes)

  • Find it hard to pay attention or stay focused in class

  • Have difficulty regulating emotions or managing transitions

  • Seem overwhelmed by sensory input (e.g. loud noises, bright lights, certain textures)

  • Avoid certain activities like messy play or climbing

  • Need support developing independence in daily routines like dressing, eating, or toileting

Our therapists create engaging, play-based sessions that focus on building confidence, independence, and practical life skills at a pace that suits your child.

Do kids with ADHD need occupational therapy?

Many children with ADHD benefit from occupational therapy, especially when they experience challenges with focus, emotional regulation, sensory processing, or daily routines. At Kids Club Paediatric Therapy, our Occupational Therapists work with children with ADHD to develop strategies that support attention, manage big feelings, and build everyday skills in a calm and supportive environment. We also work closely with families and educators to create consistency and success across all parts of a child’s life.
