What Your Child Can Achieve

Child Centred Play Therapy helps children with emotional confidence and resilience

Emotional Expression

Children build confidence in recognising and expressing their emotions in a safe, supportive environment. Therapists carefully observe and respond to these expressions, helping each child feel understood and validated. Over time, this encourages children to communicate their feelings more openly and develop a stronger understanding of their emotions.

Self Confidence

Self Confidence

Through play experiences, children develop a stronger sense of self and feel more capable in expressing their needs and feelings.

This confidence can support participation in social situations, school environments and everyday interactions.

Frustration Tolerence

Frustration Tolerence

Children learn strategies that help them manage emotions such as frustration, anxiety or anger in a calm and supportive environment.

These skills support healthier responses to challenges and help children cope more effectively with everyday situations.

Stronger Relationships

Play therapy helps children develop trust, empathy and understanding when interacting with others.

As children grow in confidence and emotional awareness, they often build stronger relationships with family members, friends and peers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Child Centred Play Therapy and how play based therapy supports children’s emotional wellbeing and development.

What is Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT)?

Child Centred Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach that allows children to express emotions and experiences through play while receiving encouragement and acceptance from a trained therapist.

Children take part in play based sessions that help them express emotions and build coping skills in a safe and supportive environment. Parents are also supported throughout the therapy journey.

The length of therapy depends on each child’s needs and goals. Some children benefit from short term support, while others may require ongoing sessions.

Many children move through a number of common stages during therapy, although every child’s journey is unique. In the beginning, your child may spend time getting to know the therapist and exploring the therapy space while building trust and feeling safe. As they become more comfortable, they may test boundaries or express emotions and behaviours they have been holding inside. Some children may also go through a period where they need extra support and reassurance as they work through difficult feelings and experiences. As therapy progresses, children often develop new skills, confidence, and healthier ways of expressing themselves. When therapy goals have been achieved and your child is coping well, they may move into a final stage where they prepare to finish therapy, celebrate their progress, and say goodbye to the therapeutic relationship.
